An Albany man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident that took place early Saturday morning on Henry Johnson Boulevard. At around 8:50 a.m. on January 3, 2026, officers responded to the Wash Factory at 151 Henry Johnson Boulevard after receiving reports of a stabbing. On the scene, officers found a 49-year-old male with a stab wound to his chest.

The victim received treatment from the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel before being transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition. Investigators determined that the stabbing occurred during a physical altercation inside the laundromat.

Melvin Grimes, a 44-year-old man from Albany, was on the scene when police arrived and was taken into custody. Grimes has been charged with one count of Assault 2nd Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He is scheduled to appear in Albany City Criminal Court on January 4, 2026.
