Albany County Urges Safe Holiday Tree Practices

Albany County officials are urging residents to take precautions with their holiday trees to prevent fire hazards. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control advises that natural trees must be kept properly hydrated, as dry trees increase the risk of fire. Officials recommend that tree stands be kept secure and filled with water. In addition, trees should be placed away from heat sources such as fireplaces and heat vents, and residents should avoid putting up a live tree too early or leaving it up for too long.

Authorities also remind residents to check their smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly and advise against removing batteries for any other use. The guidelines are intended to help keep homes safe during the holiday season.
