Albany County officials have announced that the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society (HATAS) is declaring a Code Blue Extreme alert for today, Monday, December 29, and tomorrow, December 30. This alert comes as real-feel temperatures are expected to drop to 10 degrees or less.

The Code Blue program is a cold weather initiative designed to help homeless residents access shelter when temperatures feel like 32 degrees or below, including wind chill. Code Blue Extreme is activated when temperatures drop even further.

Homeless individuals in Albany County in need of shelter can visit the Capital City Rescue Mission at 259 South Pearl Street or the Safe Haven Drop-In Shelter at 26 South Swan Street. Additional shelter options and assistance are available by calling the HATAS Homeless Hotline at 518-463-2124.

Joseph’s House Outreach Services is also offering emergency provisions and shelter navigation assistance for unsheltered residents during this period. They can be reached at 518-495-0663.
