Severe Thunderstorm Threatens Central Lackawanna County

The National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Lackawanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania until 4:30 PM EDT on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. At 3:28 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected over Clarks Summit, near Waverly, moving east at 15 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

Impacts from the storm may include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Areas that could be affected include Scranton, Dunmore, Archbald, Blakely, Taylor, Dickson City, Moosic, Olyphant, Clarks Summit, and Jessup. Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
