Austin Clears Storm Debris After May Microburst

Austin Resource Recovery is working with contractors to clear storm debris left after the microburst on May 28. More than 2,600 storm debris requests have been received so far. The agency will continue accepting requests until 10 a.m. on June 30 for customers needing large branches and downed tree limbs removed. Residents who have already made a 3-1-1 request for collection do not need to call again.

ARR is using different equipment to collect debris based on size. Small branches, yard trimmings, and leaves should be placed in a green composting cart, lawn and leaf bags, or a reusable container. Small branches not fitting in the green cart with a closed lid should be stacked in manageable piles weighing no more than 30 pounds. While ARR will normally collect the contents of a green cart and up to 15 extra items placed beside the cart, temporary adjustments have been made in response to the storm.

For large branches and downed tree limbs, residents should call Austin 3-1-1 by the June 30 deadline. ARR crews will assess and collect these items when possible, and customers are asked to have the limbs at the curb ready for pickup.

In addition, Austin and Travis County residents may drop off yard trimmings and large brush at Austin Water’s Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant, located at 2210 FM 973, Austin, TX. The drop-off is available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
