According to a statement from Geneva Firefighters Local 2859, officials in Victor have recently disclosed plans to reduce dedication to public safety measures. The communication indicated that fire district commissioners believe a high level of dedicated resources may not be necessary for an adequate emergency response.

The statement noted that several volunteer fire departments in the area, as well as across the state, have reported challenges in meeting emergency response needs due to declining membership. It was also reported that in 2024, the Fishers Fire Department responded to more than 1,300 calls involving accidents, medical emergencies, and fire reports, with expectations that the total number of calls will increase further.

A 19-year veteran of the professional fire service commented on the decision, emphasizing that the available resources are essential for protecting the community. In his career, he has responded to over 20,000 calls and stressed that every minute matters in emergency situations.
