U.S.-Tanzania Partnership Trains New Physician-Researchers

Weill Cornell Medicine faculty are partnering with Weill Bugando School of Medicine in Mwanza, Tanzania to train physician-researchers. The program is focused on investigating questions related to better sleep and cardiovascular health for HIV patients in Tanzania, as well as identifying risk factors that contribute to lung disease outside the United States and Europe.

This collaboration addresses a need in Tanzania, where few doctors have the training to study the illnesses they encounter in their clinics. By training a new generation of M.D./Ph.D. scientists, the program aims to build local research expertise and enhance the capacity to address health challenges specific to the region.

More details about the collaboration were reported by Cornell University in Ithaca.
